To Whom It May Concern:

I enclose for your consideration a copy of my resume detailing my experience and qualifications. I am seeking a new and challenging position and am confident that given the opportunity I can make a valuable contribution to your business.

For the past three years I have been involved in the computer industry, specifically in the electronic commerce arena. Four years ago an idea was born around the same timeframe that the Internet was coming into widespread adoption. That idea was to market computer products on the Internet and automate the entire sales process including; ordering, payment processing, tax & shipping calculations, inventory procurement, shipping and package tracking. To achieve this mandate I custom designed and assembled a complex computer network capable of this operation.

It is of importance to note that the company’s design was such that it would be able to ship products in the United States & Canada locally, without border crossings or

customs/duty tariffs. By leveraging my company with the world’s largest multi-national wholesaler, we would be able to eventually ship products locally from within approximately 30 countries worldwide.  The advantage to this solution is incredibly low overhead, rapid and inexpensive shipping times, and extremely wide product selection. In addition, by taking advantage of the tax moratorium provided by President Clinton’s e-commerce initiative, and some creative corporate structuring on our part, we would be able to achieve completely tax-free sales to any clients in the United States.

In order to accomplish this, the overall business was broken down into compartments and sub-compartments. Each compartment (task) was then broken down again into manageable steps. The end result of this compartmentalization process was a business that comprised of sufficient equipment and custom programming to host two web sites, one for the United States of America consisting of over 122,000 different products and a Canadian site comprised of approximately 32,000 products.

The payment process was automated using extremely secure credit card processing equipment that tied directly into the Royal Bank of Canada’s computer network in Toronto. In addition, complete profiles were built on all customers visiting the sites enabling in-depth analysis of their activity and thorough understanding of their shopping processes. This allowed adaptive specials to be created based on these individual dynamic profiles. This level of customer activity awareness allowed for extremely fine-tuned and targeted marketing.

I believe that this business experience highlights my ability to take an idea from inception to application in even the most complex processes. In addition, it also illustrates a truly ‘global’ thought process and marketing standpoint. Regrettably, the business did not make it to final completion due to belated cooperation from third-party companies and as result, lack of funding. While financially some losses were incurred, these have been greatly offset by the enormous amount of technical experience, global perspective, and global business experience gained in the process.

Sincerely,

Marvin E. Miller
